TRIBUTE TO A SAMARITAN

Sharing a poem I had written for my ephemeral inspiration....
                             
                    
Undoubtedly the greatest scientist of all time 
The story of her life is not a mime 
Though the prejudices closed all the gates 
She had christened her own fate 
                     
Born a girl was the biggest bane, it seemed   
But to become a Samaritan was her biggest dream 
She proved it all, determination her merit. 
Eureka ! Polonium and Radium to her credit. 

Never seen a lady so austere, so accurate. 
Not once, but twice a Nobel laureate. 
Test-tubes of radium , she always carried in her pockets, 
Saved casualties, rendered life. Nothing less than launching rockets. 

Tremendous she was  in all spheres, motherhood and science 
“Outspoken and Ravishing all women should be “ was her conscience. 
As swift as a cheetah was her mind. 
Devoted her life for the betterment of mankind. 

Immortal she is in the history of science and humanity 
I guess, that’s enough to know her serenity. 
For radioactivity is her fame, 
The legendary Marie Curie is her name !

 As this year draws to a close, here is to reminding mankind that no matter how abstruse this pandemic was, there was a flame of hope and benevolence that kept us alive , reignited our quest towards brighter days.. A poem I had penned to express the plight of migrant workers who have always had to face a lot of upheaval. The current scenario has caused them to undergo a lot of hardships... Inured I am to these hardships ,   Not a roof, not an asset to claim ownership .   The spade that I use to dig the ground,   has made me a helpless,  im poverished hound   My daughter whose right was to attain education,   is burdened with household ballast due to my abdication   And my son, whose right was the same, Is also  bereft,  a dropout, all my blame   Albeit all the draconian, punitive labour.   The affluent keep us clandestine, d o  no   favour.   Mum we remain for those scanty bucks   Never enough to fill our bellies, that’s our melancholic luck.   Like an obscured enchantment, we are trapped in poverty    To eschew this bastille, w...

Unmasking her elegy

A rune I had penned on lines of  women safety, something that has been bothering us since times immemorial... She walks down the boulevard, Shivering, afraid of possibly getting scarred. For her safety, pray there be no darkness, may the sun never set Hoping she reaches home without being sensed by the criminal’s net.   The little girl, blithe, boisterous and excited for a frolic day, So naive and exuberant, she loves to bask in the sun rays. Those innocent eyes know not mulct, cupidity and cruelty, To bequeath a stranger’s candy filled with malicious avarice and vanity.   The maid who washes dishes for a penchant household Her loyalty towards her ‘master’, a sight to behold.  Something I tried writing since today is International Poetry day..... Nature bleeds the machete of  inactivity with silence Until treachery as a silent epiphany coerces violence All those impoverished, hegemonized bear propinquity with abuse. The righteous office bearers ostracised to recluse. Justice is augean, trust and faith rare To receive the emancipate should social diaspora care ? If the opulent have agita, the powerful have fear What about the sole bread earner who has no vizier ? At times of destitute, history is testimony The power of poetry louder than cacophony, not an epiphany As pride in celebration and blarney in crusades. It has no barriers, be it castles, attics or towers, it’s power permeates. At the heart of holy verses, the prophet's sermons does it reside. Is it 2024 already?

The flow of time is inexplicable, years of monumental scientific and prudential advancements have also promulgated a skeleton of memories. Tried incorporating a few references from the 2000s and later decades, hope this evokes some nostalgia!  As always, feedback is much welcome, sorry in advance if this bores you:)) I still recall the first day of school, in the bus too shy to shake hands Too nervous to volunteer, my confidence fading like quicksand. Kafkaesque isn't it? The slightest courage now fills me with delight. Though still in shock, as to how many years have gone by in hindsight. Who would have known a virus would have turned our lives around From infants to adults, photons from androids and mobiles us surround Wasn’t the first smartphone and the iPad not too far back? Flames of Fall

Yes it's exciting sometimes, and then it becomes overwhelming all over again. Maybe let's take it easy, sometimes all we need are the wings of leaves, maple and cider :))) Within these cerulean welkin that surround us Is it possible to spend days and nights without fuss? The ambition and zeal might be at the zenith of time But how palpable are these, substantial or mimes?
